Who is Mr. Z?
I grew up in Downingtown, PA and attended Downingtown Area Senior High School (back in the good old days when there was only one Downingtown High School). I attended the Pennsylvania State University, where I originally graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Communications, with a minor in Philosophy. After spending a lot of time working with youth groups during my senior year, I felt a change of career paths might be in order. Not long after graduation, I began taking teaching certification courses at West Chester University, and eventually earned my Master's Degree (as well as Pennsylvania Elementary Teaching Certificate) in Elementary Education.
My teaching career began here at Owen J. Roberts in the fall of 1998. I served as a Title I reading instructor at North Coventry (the old building) assisting teachers and students with meeting instructional goals. The following year, I moved into the classroom full time, teaching fifth grade as the "New" North Coventry was opened. I spent the next ten years teaching third grade, and moved up to teach fourth grade three years ago. Since that time, I have also earned a second Master's degree as a reading specialist, and look forward to using this knowledge to help the students in my charge reach new heights and grow even further than even they believed they could.
I currently live in Pottstown with my wife, Sara, and our son Quinten. I am well known for being an avid sports fan, as I enjoy suffering the fates of the Philadelphia sports teams on a regular basis. I also have a variety of hobbies, including photography, golf, skiing, running, coaching baseball, and cycling. It's not uncommon to see me logging many a mile on my bicycle riding throughout the roads of the district and the county (please don't run me down!).
